Why is Activity Important?
The great debate about physical activity has shown that even small increases in activity can have beneficial effects for health. According to Liane M. Summerfield, Chair of the Department of Health And Human Performance and professor of Nutrition and Health at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia,“a pattern of inactivity begins early in life, making the need for physical activity necessary among our children.” The benefits of early physical activity for children may have some significant advantages for today’s youth. These benefits include:
-
Lowered Risk of colon cancer
-
Increase in bone density
-
Reduction of anxiety image and mood
-
Development of physical fitness
-
Promotion of weight control
The benefits, however, are not all physical. It has been studied that sport and physical activity can combine with other interventions to reduce crime in particular groups and communities. Activity and sport also improves self-esteem, ability to adhere to rules, and self-expression.
From a spiritual standpoint, children must practice Christ-like principles. Activities and sports can allow children to learn the concepts of grace and forgiveness, resolving conflicts, treating others with respect and promote a healthy lifestyle which is God’s ideal
